Brisket in Sweet and Sour Sauce

This Brisket in Sweet and Sour Sauce is perfect for a traditional Hanukkah dinner. Not only is brisket easy to pop into your slow cooker and forget about, but it’s packed with nutrients being high in protein and iron. You’ll fill all the hungry tums easily!

Ingredients

Method


1 tbs olive oil
3 brown onions, peeled and sliced
3kg whole brisket, room temperature (take out of fridge 30 mins before cooking)
¼ cup maple syrup
¼ cup tomato paste
2 tbs tamari
3 tbs red wine vinegar
½ cup beef bone broth
Sea salt and pepper, to taste
1. Heat oil over medium heat in a frying pan.
2. Add onions and cook until browned for approximately 5 mins. Place into the bowl of your slow cooker.
3. In the same frying pan, brown brisket on all sides. Place into the slow cooker.
4. Combine marinade ingredients and pour over the meat.
5. Cook on low for 8-10 hours.
6. Transfer brisket to a cutting board and allow to rest for 5 mins.
7. Slice brisket across the grain 0.5-1cm thick.
8. Serve with onion sauce, wholemeal spelt spirals or brown rice and greens.

Tip:
Serve immediately, store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 4 months.
